I am not a fan of English songs but I selectively listen to few songs which people suggest and this is one such. It's a long road by Dan Hill - The lyrics sounded too meaningful and I liked it so much. Here it is:

Movie time...

As usual, I watched few movies this weekend. There's nothing better to kill the boredom with 2-3 hrs going in a movie :)

1. Milk - Sean Penn's oscar winning performance, a homosexual oriented movie which has got great reviews nominting itself for the oscars and academy awards. I expected more in terms of all the above said factors and that's the reason I picked it up from my netflix queue. But I did not like the movie as I thought I would. Nothing more about it...
2. Naan Kadavul - I ended up crying more than liking the movie. There's only one thing that I liked in the whole movie - The cast. There's nothing else that is worth watching and I wonder why this movie was over hyped...
3. SMS - That's what my friends in India told that this movie is called in its shorter form...Siva Manasula Sakthi. When compared to the above two movies, I would say this one is far better because there's not much hype about this movie and it's casually screened. Jeeva's performance was good and I was surprised to see Aarya playing a guest role...(I was drooling amidst the surprise ;))
4. Yaavarum Nalam - I liked this movie better than any other tamil movies that I have watched recently. The screenplay, the twist and the turns, the cast, the suspense - Everything fitted well. When I started watching the movie, I thought it's going to be the usual pei, aavi kind of tamil movies but it was not. It's a bit different than the movies like 13 number veedu, Uruvam, Rasathi varum naal etc., I read somewhere that there may be a sequel to this movie which is being discussed by director Vikram Kumar and Madhavan. I would definitely watch the sequel too, if there's gonna be one.

And I have got the next 3 movies from library. At this rate, I guess I have to write movie reviews every weekend :)

Poo - Started with this on a Friday night. No, I am wrong! I started with 'Abhiyum Naanum' and after watching the first part, I felt it was very slow and dragging and did not have an interest to continue. So flipped to Sasi's 'Poo'. IMHO, the +ve factor of the movie is the cast inspite of not having the experienced and popular faces. The new faced heroine Paarvathi is flawless in her acting which is impressive. The acting and role of each cast in the movie seems so realistic. The one thing that irritated me was Maari's (Parvathi) It's 'Thangarasu', That's Thangarasu and all about Thangarasu (Srikanth) sentences but no quips about it since that's what the story is based about. The movie in certain aspects reminded me of Azhagi and Kaadhal. I have a reason for it - The song during their childhood days with other kids around which is similar to that groundnut song 'Chutthi Chutthi...' from Azhagi :) and the cast that suits to the movie which is similar to Kaadhal :) My rating shows 3 stars.

The Bucket List - Wat a movie? Simply amazing! The thoughtful idea....I loved it! Two men on death bed knowing that they may not live after 6 months goes on a mission to freak out with their wish list called 'The Bucket list'. The way that Morgan Freeman sounds in the message that he gives at the beginning of the movie - I always thought it is influential. Is it not? It has a meaning. Sitting on the edge of the Pyramids, Skydiving, Riding on a bike in Great Wall of China, Driving a Mustang and hitting every rod in the roads and the list goes on and on...But one thing on the list is kinda moving - 'Laugh until you cry' and when Morgan F strikes that off after he does it. People say this movie was a flop but I liked it. My rating shows 4 stars.

Outsourced - Mr. Todd whom people in India call as 'Toad' and he stands correcting them everytime is a good one. A call center whose building is left unconstructed and a cow stays before it, the water pours in because of poor irrigation - Tats India! The hospitality shown by the Salavaikaran (Don't read it a Saliva, it's washman) to Todd - Tat's India! And the so called heroine says about her one day with Todd as 'Holiday in Goa'...which made me think - Is that India? ;) Not so great movie but a good timepass entertainer. My rating shows 2.5 stars.

The 'Englipish' speaking woman in me :)

When I look back @ it, I don't know whether I have a 'collar thookividum' feeling or a 'watz in it?' feeling but I wanted to write about this. During childhood, being in a English nursery or primary school dint make any difference to me when i was compared to a kid studying in a municipal or corporation school. I have never spoken Englipish words except for the English exams and preparation where my dad used to have a stick in his hands and I render all the spellings and pronunication in a jiffy and run away to play. This did not change even after I was put into the High School. The situation became worse being in an English medium Govt. School where I learnt the most coveted words like 'Eh bulla', 'Endi', 'Saniyane', 'Erumai', 'Naye' (All those words of honor) but stood out first in English exams (as well in Tamil too :)) Good that there was no spoken english or oral tests in Englipish, otherwise I would have been repeating the same class for years by failing in those. I was afraid when my dad put me in the most popular Matric school in town which had the significant number of Englipish speaking students but it was not so and although my coveted tamil words did not come out, Englipish words also did not. Then put my foot forward in College where speaking in Englipish (termed as peter vudrathu) was an offense amongst the student crowd, I did not even try, making that as a reason. There boomed a real problem with respect to Englipish talking when I was out of college. Used to cruise through all the aptitude exams easily but fail in the personal interviews where I would have to rehearse a sentence before putting it forward. And there I was waiting for few months before luck clicked my way to be in a bigger organisation. Everyone thought I was calm and hence I did not talk but I knew what that was. I had to rehearse atleast 10-12 times before I speak to anyone and sometimes I ended up like how a thikku-vai girl would be. Few people could not tolerate and asked me if I belonged to a Tamil medium school when I was shattered to pieces. There was a well wisher for me there who gave me an idea to start a Englipish development team and I came up with flying colors doing that. The same person who asked me if I was from a Tamil medium school came to me the very next year and said he cannot even come closer to my Englipish speaking skills (in a positive way though :)) And now here I am speaking with the nativites of US of the A with an accent (very rarely though) with ease. No hurdles, No rehearsals, No mutterings, No murmurs and here I am writing blogs in English. Wat can I call it? ;)

Movie Time

I saw the movie 'The Departed' on Saturday night and it's one of the movie that made me sit even after it was 12:00 at night. I liked the movie, especially Matt Damon's character.

Watched 'Hancock' today and it was not the type that I like. I did not read the review before because I did not have any plans to watch it today. It was jus another movie and I did not like it. I watched the movie among the number of choices that I had only because Will Smith acted in that. I have been smashed away by his acting in 'The Hitch' and 'The Pursuit of Happyness' earlier and hence thought Will would have shown a different flavour in this movie but not worth watching.
