The Greatness Guide

This is the next targeted book to be on my book shelf. I just read few excerpts from this book and decided to get this one. Most of my friends say that they are not interested in reading these kind of books but I always had a penchant to read such books. Sometimes, I end up following certain strategies given in these books. It has always helped me to nurture myself in different perspectives. These lines in the excerpt reminded me of one such strategies that I follow - 'Rewarding yourself with good things sends a message to the deepest and highest part of you. One that says I'm worth it and I deserve it. One that will inspire you to reach even higher, work even harder and be even better..'

Vellai Pookal...

Wat a song! A master piece from ARR...Recently, I heard this song sung by Sathyan in Isai Kudumbam show and it triggered me to listen to its original version. It gives a smooth feeling whenever I listen to this song. The twist of the tone when it begins with Kaatrin Perisaiyil line...I love it! I love the lyrics too...And here it is...

M & M...

These two M’s have a lot in common. That’s how I have felt most of the times, although I am prone to think about these two M’s only on very few occasions…The first ‘M’ is Marriage and the second ‘M’ is Marketing. Instead of comparing these M’s, I can say they go together – Marriage Marketing. When I say Marriage, I am only talking about the arranged marriages. Let’s take a look at the comparison:

- Marketing is a societal process which discerns consumers' wants, focusing on a product/service to fulfill those wants, attempting to move the consumers toward the products or services offered. Marriage also is! Maybe the product, consumer, service is different in this case – The consumer being the Bride/Groom, Product being the long term relationship and the services offered are many…

- Marketing is fundamental to any business growth. So as Marriage! Where the business is called “life after marriage”

- The marketing teams (marketers) are tasked to create consumer awareness of the products or services through marketing techniques. And marriage has the marketers – The Guy or the Girl who has to create awareness of their interests, ambition, lifestyle etc., to the opposite sex before forming a relationship

- Unless it pays due attention to its products and services and consumers' demographics and desires, a business will not usually prosper over time. Unless it pays due care and affection, a marriage will not prosper over time

- Marketing tends to be seen as a creative industry, which includes advertising, distribution and selling. Marriage is also seen as a creative industry which includes advertising, distribution and selling wherein you have to be creative enough to market yourself suiting the needs of the other

- It is also concerned with anticipating the customers' future needs and wants, which are often discovered through market research. Yeah! Marriage marketing does that too…Do a research in all matrimonial sites…you’ll know…:)

- Essentially, marketing is the process of creating or directing an organization to be successful in selling a product or service that people not only desire, but are willing to buy. And in marriage, the organization is the families who try to sell their own product to another organization where people desire to get this product…Got it???

Therefore good marketing must be able to create a "proposition" or set of benefits for the end customer that delivers value through products or services.

Specialist areas in common:

Direct Marketing – Guy and Gal meet at the Gal’s house – The ‘Penn Parkum Padalam’

Communication – Guy and Gal talks over the phone to get to know each other

Advertising – This comes way before the above two…Uploading your personal biodata in matrimonial web portals :)

Database research – Courtesy would be all matrimonial portals and Sangams

Event Organization – The perusugal who organizes for the PPP indicated in the first line

Branding – Based on the Caste and religion categories

Retailing – When everything said above works out and product is set for purchase

It’s a generic thought among most of the people that getting a job or running a business is much easy than purchasing a product in Marriage marketing…100% true…

Although I am not bothered about these two M’s, I am happy that my first business case study has come out well…’The Marriage Marketing’..Howzaat???

Tamil New Year...

This Tamil New Year started with a question from friends @ Office…

Friend1: We have Telugu/Kannada New Year which is called ‘Ugadi’

Friend2: We have Malayalam New Year which is called ‘Vishu’

Friends 1&2: We know your Tamil New Year falls this Sunday…What do u call it?

Me: We call it as Tamil New Year in Tamil…(Enna chamarthana answer ;))

Friend1: No, is there a name like Vishu or Ugadi?

Me: No it’s called Tamil Varuda Pirappu which is the translation of Tamil New Year…We don’t have a specific name…

Friends 1&2: Calling another friend who is a Tamilian…What do you call Tamil New Year as?

Me: (To myself) Freeya vidungalen..yaaru sonnalum..Answer onnu dhaan..and escaped from that place…

Last Tamil New Year, I made payasam and went to Pittsburg temple to get Dharshan of Mr.Balaji

This time, although am not going to any temple to get anyone's Dharshan, I started the day by playing the devotional trio songs that I have it in my PC – Kandha Shasti Kavasam, Subrapatham and the Amman song…

Done with the house cleaning y’day itself as it’s an usual ‘Saturday’ thing for me :)

Ready to prepare some aval sweet and paruppu sundal and the spl. Lunch comprising Sambar, Avial, Okra pachadi (Build-up nalla dhaan irukku but hope it comes out well)…

Appuram enna? Worshipping God, Eating and Burping dhaan…:)

K.K...

I saw him 7 years ago...a US return guy...The way he handled the particular situation showed his candor...I liked it :)

Next, I saw him after 5 years when I went out with my friends. This time also, he returned from US...His thoughts and views about his would-be better-half and the online chemistry gave me an impression on him :)

Then, I saw him only after 3 years and that's 2 days back with my roomie and this time, he showed how he cares for his friends...This time he did not come from US but from a local village...This shows he can adapt to any region :)

Hmm...So, who is he - KK? Do you think he's the singer or the next door guy or my friend? ;) No...I was talking about the different characters that Karthik Kumar, (Husband of Radio Mirchi fame RJ 'Mirchi' Suchi) a theatre artist and an actor who has acted in films like Alaipayudhey, Kanda Naal Mudhal and the latest 'Yaaradi Nee Mohini?'...

I am wondering why he is always given the role of sacrificing the heroine, his lady love to the Hero? First time to Maddy, next to Prasanna and now to Dhanush....It feeds a 'paavam' sense to us when we see him doing the same thing in films...But there is one thing in common other than his 'sacrificing' nature in these films...I liked all these three movies which din't give me even a minute of boredom...

K..K...hope to see you in different roles in the upcoming films...

P.S.: Suchitra kooda ivlo kavala patrukka maatanga pola....Jus kidding!!! :P

Options

I am reading a book called ‘Options’ by Daniel Lyon (Fake Steve Jobs fame and Editor in chief of Forbes Magazine). With only 11 chapters completed and lot more to go, I am really enjoying this. Found a good price at Amazon. Probably will order and return the one taken from library…

Click..k…k…

It’s my general perception that I am not good at taking photos. Most of the times, I end up taking them in a shaken mode. Hence, I used to be reluctant to take photos unless there’s noone to take ‘em. Got bored on Sunday and took snaps of my aparment and sent it to friends. The photos came out well but not great – This is what I was thinking. But, to my surprise, I got an email from my friend who has a passion for photography, telling that my photos had a professional touch. No kiddin! And now, I am into a flickr group where my college friends puts in their collection of photos. I should admit that those photos are amazing! Well, I have a new hobby added to my list now…:)

P.S: The photo shown above is not taken by me...That's obvious :)

Essay

When I want to write some useful stuff, ideas don’t come out easily. I have been spending days to write an essay and changing it everyday but still, I am left unsatisfied. Going to start from the scratch again…Although I am reading it again and again, I feel that it has not even come to 10% of my satisfactory level. S.i.g.h……:(
