'Crazy' kiya re...

Its been a long time since I saw him on screen and I was 'super' excited to watch him judge and sing in between in this week's Airtel Super Singer Junior. Do you know who am I talking about? It's Harish Raghavendra. It's for his voice I got a cassette full of his songs as a gift, it's for his voice I ran from behind the stadium which holds 1000s of people to the front to watch his 'live' performance. Although his voice is not heard in the charts frequently, his voice is still afresh and has the same specialty of diction in it. I had the privilege of making my friends become fans of his voice :) One of his latest and one of my favorites of his' is here:

A 'variety' jukebox

I love listening to all these songs and love watching the #3 especially :) This list involves a lingustic mix although most of these are very popular. Each one has an originating history in my jukebox.

Rock On - Socha hai
After watching 'Dil Chahta Hai' and 'Rock On', no wonder that Farhan Akthar became one of my favorites :) Although his voice is unique, I like this song and the guitar chords used in between.

MLTR - Paint my love
This is one of the top two songs that was taught to me during the western music class when I was introduced to English music albums.

Swapna Koodu - Karupin Azhagu
One of the songs that I love to watch which ensembles a jolly mood. To me, everything in the song looks beautiful :)

Khadgam - Nuvve Nuvve
I had a telugu friend in hostel when I was in Chennai who used to sing very beautifully. This is that one song which she used to sing to me often and that's how I came to know about this and since then I started liking it.

Azhagiya Theeye - Vizhigalin Aruginil
All time favorite...Most of my friends also like this

My top picks...

It's been quite sometime since I wrote about songs. Here is a list of my top 10 favorite tamil songs of 2008. It was an easy task to pick these.

Check it out (in the order of my favorites):

1. Vaaranam Aayiram - Mundhinam Paarthene
I dont like the visual of this song but the way Naresh Iyer and Prashanthini has sung it has impressed me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNCgXoVgkKk&playnext=7&playnext_from=QL
2. Vellithirai - Vizhiyile Vizhiyile
I did not know about this song until one of my friends told me about this. The very first time I heard it, I liked it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ik5CM-ZYjMQ&playnext=8&playnext_from=QL
3. Raman Thediya Seethai - Enna pulla senja nee
This is not a very popular song but the feel, the visual and the lyrics of the song which is very close to heart.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtbFOmkZ92o&playnext=4&playnext_from=QL
4. Sakkarakatti - Marudhani
A very simple song but there is something which attracts me. I guess it's just because I have heard it many times. I just saw the visual of the song today which has nothing great to tell about.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0edL7MkTo8&playnext=5&playnext_from=QL
5. Bheema - Mudhal Mazhai
A typical Harris Jeyaraj's composition. The duet combo of Hariharan and Mahathi is a delight.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUH-Qwg66bc&playnext=1&playnext_from=QL
6. Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu - Lesa parakudhu
A melliflous singing by Chinmayee and Karthik.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuH0q08gOmY&playnext=9&playnext_from=QL
7. Dasavatharam - Oh oh Sanam
The beats involved and Kamal's voice is what I like in this song especially when he says Come on, sing with me. Rap it up!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrNWkJU5Duo&playnext=2&playnext_from=QL
8. Dhaam Dhoom - Anbe en Anbae/Yaarao Manadhile
I had a dilemma when I wanted to choose a song from Dhaam Dhoom. I like Anbae en anbae for Harish's voice but there's also Yaaro manadhile whose lyrics are great.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTg65BH1z0c&playnext=3&playnext_from=QL
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpRFgfjR-0k
9. Anjathey - Kathalla Kannale
A great kuthu song. When I feel like hearing a song full of josh, I would go for this. The dance moves are good to watch :)

10. Santhosh Subramaniam - Uyire Uyire Piriyathey
The last in my list for its lyrics and feel

July maadham...

One of the songs that I like the most. I don't know how many songs like this goes into my 'one of the songs that I like the most' list. I cannot say what's that makes me feel great about the song except that it makes me feel happy and I enjoy singing along with it. Anupam's husky voice in this song and the legend SPB's casual and flawless notes is great! The subtitles and the jodi's dance in this video makes it greater though :) Watch it here:

HR - Part II

I have been writing about him since I am a huge fan of him. I did not have any intentions to write about this part II until there came a situation. I had my dance sessions y'day and was very tired after coming back. Had my dinner and was about to sleep. Since I had to give sometime after dinner for digestion, opened my laptop to watch Jodi #1. After watching that, I hit on the KWA link to see who's the guest this week. To my surprise, when Anu said that she's going to invite the singer of 'Melliname Melliname', all my drowsiness went off and I was back with all my energy and excitement to watch HR. HR came with his all time smile and I thoroughly enjoyed all his singing esp. Nirpadhuve Nadapadhuve to the core. Perfect diction, sruthi and when he sings, I feel a sense of music within itself without any BGM. And he sang my recent favourite of his 'Anbae en Anbae' from Dhaam Dhoom. With only kelvi gnanam, he has come till this - Tat sounds great to me :))) And now, I am more pepped up to listen to his songs in my ipod.

SS continued...

As I wished and quoted my top 3 favourites of SS, Ajeesh, Ravi and Rohit has cruised into the main round of Super Singer. But Bavadharani Ram did not make it :( Though most of them were not quite comfortable in singing the Western song trained by 'Malgudi' Shuba, each one of them ended up in a different tune and tempo. But it was good to watch and I started liking the verses of the song and here it is!

I want to be happy
But you are not happy
Till you make me happy too...
Life is not worth living
Unless you are giving
Let me make you happy too...
Pa Pa Pa ra ba ba tu tu......

I keep singing it in my own tune and tempo as others did and the good thing is there's noone here to judge me :):)

Super Singer

I have been watching this since it started. I did not even miss the training sessions by Sriram Parthasarathy, Deepan Chakraborthi and 'Malgudi' Shuba. Passion for music keeps me watching this show :) On the first 3 days of a week, when I come from work and after doing all my casual to-do things, with a sip of tea, I would sit and watch this and talk about the intricacies to myself. After watching it for so many days, I have got my own favourites list from the participants category -
1. Ravi - whom people talk about a lot and think that he would be the STAR of this show - I totally agree that he has a great voice but he's a pro and hence I don't see anything notable in him doing it with ease. He comes last in my list although I have quoted him first
2. Ajeesh - A flawless singer when it comes to melodies but he cannot take the western type things with great comfort. He's second in my list
3. Rohit - He's my top favorite who is in the PSG band but not a pro. But he has got his own style which I like the most
4. Bavadharini Ram - She's the only one in the gals category whom I like the most. The way she sung Thoodhu Varuma shows her caliber and the way she can adapt to any style

Almost all others are good at melodies but they are not versatile, according to me. I wish atleast one from my list emerge as a winner. But we will watch out for who comes with flying colors. Looking forward for the upcoming sessions.

Out of all these, I started liking Chinmayi's (anchor of the show and the playback singer) voice more than before, after I heard 'I miss you da' from Sakkarakatti. You rock Chinmayee....:) Another good thing is my all time favorite MKB has quit the show since he got a chance to sing in a movie. I guess I am good to be in a judge's seat...Wat say? ;)

Naan Thedum...

One of the most favourite song of mine. Whenever I hear the beginning aalap by Maestro, you can see goosebumps. I always thought how an aalap can be rendered flawlessly and without a breath in between. Ilayaraja has an unique voice and so does Bavadharini. I like both their voices so much.
